27J bus drivers
drive home expertise to win trophy for third year in row
There was a rodeo
in town last weekend, not for cowboys but for area school bus drivers, and 27J
School District drivers proudly won the top prize and the traveling trophy for
the third year in a row.
The Adams County
Invitational Road-e-o for school bus drivers was held on May 10 in the parking
lot of Prairie View High School. There were 23 school bus drivers in all who
competed. Drivers competed in categories including backing, student pick up,
alley dock, a railroad crossing stop, and parallel parking.
The local school
districts competing were Adams 14, Adams 12, School District 50, 27J Schools,
Keenesburg and Thompson School Districts.
The 27J School District bus drivers won the overall trophy and also placed first
overall in the special education category.
Contestants for
27J Schools were drivers Crystal May, Tuesdi McQueen, Bernadette Nichols, Jorge
Yepez, Denise Current, Lisa Langton, Linda Lacey, Jay Cooper, Kerry McNeese,
and Julie Wass.
The Mapleton School
District No. 1 bus drivers came in second overall at the Adams County Inivtational
Road-e-o. All participants placing in first, second and third places for district
competition received ribbons for participating.
Adams 14 School
District bus drivers also competed in the bus Road-e-o. Contestants for Adams
14 were bus drivers David Hernandez, Feliciano Moralez, and Geraldine Gonzales.
David Hernandez placed 1st in district and 3rd overall, Feliciano Moralez placed
2nd in district and 4th overall, and Geraldine Gonzales placed 3rd in district.
